"Hand of Hope"

A picture began circulating in November. It should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade." It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the U.S. paper which published it, you probably would never have seen it.

The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.

During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr. Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.

The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, "Hand of Hope." The text explaining the picture begins, "The tiny hand of 21-week-old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life."

Little Samuel's mother said they "wept for days" when they saw the picture. She said, "The photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person" Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful. Now see the actual picture, and it is awesome...incredible....and hey, pass it on! The world needs to see this one!

ATTENTION: Beware of Fashion Pullout Scam

Unfortunately I had to learn this the hard way.
One day I was contacted by a certain “Danielle Bautista” (danee.bautista@gmail.com) who asked if I allowed pullouts for satchels for a spread in a popular magazine by one of the top publications. “We promise to return them in tip-Top shape! :)” she added.
Since The School of Satchel is a new brand, I agreed almost instantly, I needed all the free media mileage I can get. “Danielle” said that one of their interns named “Frances” will meet me to pick up the satchels. She wrote,
"Thanks so much! Here's her number, 0916 849 0809, her name is Frances. You can arrange your preferred time and the exact place where you'll meet with here nalang. Btw, we only need lang naman the purple and black batchel in medium and the blue and tan satchel in small. We need those specifically because of the creative that we have for the shoot. As for the new items, we'd love to use those too! If you have inquiries whatsoever, don't hesitate to e-mail me. Thank you so much for allowing us to use your bags. "
To cut the story short, I met with “Frances” (she also used mobile number 09279240476) at a mall and handed to her 7 satchels (yes, ouch!) and you know how this story ends, I never got the satchels back. A couple of days after the supposed shoot, I tried to contact “Danielle” and “Frances” and didn’t get a response. I contacted someone I knew from the magazine they supposedly worked for and got a confirmation that there was no one named “Danielle” in the editorial team and no “Frances” who worked as an intern. Sigh.
I blame myself for being very lax and careless and allowing a complete stranger to just take 7 satchels from me without any identification. In the past, I would usually use Google and Facebook to verify media contacts’ identities and also to find out what they look like when I meet them. “Danielle” caught me at a bad time (perfect for her) when I was very busy with a bazaar and didn’t really think twice about checking her credentials.
I was told by someone that these scams are becoming more common nowadays since the ‘ber months are here and people needed cash.
I’m sharing this story so that all sellers will be more vigilant when lending their items for pullouts, I think we sellers and new business owners tend to be overly generous when it comes to getting free media mileage. From now on for pullouts, I implement the following strict requirements:

1. Presentation of valid ID and also a photocopy (for my file)
2. Presentation of valid company ID
3. For contributors, I request for a copy of the proposal letter on letterhead too.

To all SOS satchel fans if you see anyone selling SOS satchels with likely lower prices, please alert me via theschoolofsatchel@gmail.com or text 09178411698. I do have agreements with wholesalers and retailers so just ask me and I'll confirm whether they are accredited or not. I will offer a reward for helpful leads. These are the satchels that were stolen:

1 pc Navy 11in
1 pc Tan 11in
1 pc Avocado + Brown 11in
1 pc Gray + Brown 13in with handles

New: Facebook Timeline

First Ride at the LRT Extension

Last week was my first ride at the new LRT Extension. I rode from Balintawak station to U.N. Avenue, I was going to Manila Doctors that time for my pre-employment medical exam. I had a 3-day adventure riding the LRT. Haha! Because I went 3 consecutive days to Manila Doctors for my medical exam, so tiring right?! Took some pictures of the new LRT too.

Love vs. Sex

A teenage girl about 17 had gone to visit some friends one evening and time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year. She ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he was waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped round her, she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely. The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question. Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, "Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her." Amazingly, whether you believe or not, you're never alone. Did you know that 98% of teenagers will not stand up for God? Repost this as Love vs. Sex if you truly believe in God. PS: God is always there in your heart and loves you no matter what and if you stand up for him he will stand up for you. Maybelline: Clear Smooth Foundation & Hello Kitty Mascara

Last week, I went to Trinoma to drop by at Landmark and look for a green concealer because my cousin, Cille, said that it's better to use that kind of concealer. Been looking for it but haven't found any. I dropped by at Maybelline to buy a foundation that I can use everyday for my new work as a Teller. And there, I found their new product, the New Clear Smooth All-in-one Shine Free Foundation.

This new Maybelline product retails for only P249. So affordable! I'm not fond of using foundations because I have sensitive skin, so just to try, I bought the refill which only costs P149. And now I can say, I should've bought the big one. Haha! It's so worth it, I swear! This is the first time I used a foundation and it's so love. It evens out your skin and acts like a concealer, it covers your blemishes. Perfect matte finish! And, it also has SPF 25/PA++ and Pro Vitamin C formula that protects your skin from intense heat and humidity. I so love this foundation now! And I will definitely buy again!

While browsing for upcoming Filipino movies, i suddenly saw this movie trailer of Star Cinema's upcoming movie this September. The movie's title is No Other Woman. The 3 main casts are Derek Ramsay, Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes.

The first time I watched the trailer my first reaction was, "Wow! Eto na pantapat ng Star Cinema sa My Neighbor's Wife!". Hahaha! But i'm wrong, there's something in this movie that made me watch the trailer more than 3 times unlike My Neighbor's Wife, i've watche their trailer pero it's not that enticing. Iba talaga gumawa ng trailer Star Cinema. Hehe! Super catchy! After watching the trailer (for more than 5 times na ata), i'm so very excited to watch the movie!!! Di naman masyado halata dahil talagang i took time to blog about this. Excited much!! Haha! The story is similar to The Fierce Wife (ABS-CBN's show) which happens to be my favorite show too! My unforgettable quote on this movie trailer was:

"..ano bang mas madaling kalaban? yung putang mahirap o putang mayaman?"

Winner talaga ang quote. Wala akong ma-say! All I can say is, i'm super sure ang daming kaabang-abang na quotable lines. Ang galing ng script writer!!

I never imagined myself wearing corsets and most of all loving and getting addicted to florals. This floral fever started when I met my Layout Fairy, Tin Roque (who's also a talented graphic designer). Posh and Pretty opened my eyes to new things--florals and dainty sexy things to be exact. Haha! I was a simple girl before who's contented in a "shirt and pants" outfit everyday. But when I saw Posh and Pretty Shop and met Tin, my whole perspective of fashion changed. I realized that sometimes, we also have to dress pretty not for other people but for ourselves. Whenever I visit Posh and Pretty Shop and browse the albums, it's like i'm in Floral Wonderland. So to make my dream come true, I really saved up for my dream corsets designed personally by Tin Roque. After I bought the corsets from Posh and Pretty, I fell in love with florals and everything that Tin wears. Hahaha! I always wait for her new collections every now and then to satisfy my floral craving. Haha! Posted above are my pictures wearing the corsets I bought from her!

Now, I'm a certified floral addict because of Posh and Pretty. So that's my Posh and Pretty story! Hihi!

Para Kay B: Quotes & Opinions

Back in college days, i use to buy random books from National Bookstore since it's just a tricycle away from my school. One time, I tried to buy this book, Para Kay B written by Ricky Lee, out of curiosity. I've read it while waiting for my Graduation ceremony. And I didn't expect that i'll enjoy reading it. I'll share some quotable quotes that sticks on my mind.

When i've read this quote, I just thought, do I belong in that quota he's talking about? If the theory is real, am I the one that will be happy? So many questions are popping in my head! This is the reason why I enjoyed reading the book. I'm so curious.

Ang Love...

Ang love parang mantsa sa damit, di inaasahan. Biglaan. Bigla nalang dumadating. Aksidente, makapit. Pero sa kabilang banda, isa nga itong mantsa, na napakadaling tanggalin sa pamamagitan lang ng isang laba.

Ang love iba-iba, meron yung tipo na mula aparri hanggang jolo, walang hangganan di mauubos kahit umabot sa dulo. Meron din yung tipo na parang posporo, yung isang sindi mo lang, agad-agad nagiging abo, kung mawala mas mabilis pa sa alas kwatro.

Ang love kung ikukumpara sa gera, madami kang kalaban, hindi mo alam kung sino ang mananalo, hindi mo alam kung mananalo ka nga. At hindi mo alam kung tama ba na ito’y ipaglaban, hindi mo alam kung karapat-dapat ba itong ipaglaban hanggang patayan. Dahil sa huli, baka ang iyong ipinaglalaban ay ang taong maglalaglag pala sayo sa iyong kalaban.

Fresh Start

Starting today this will be my official blog site. I'm so tired updating my Tumblr account since it's not that active. As you can see, all my posts from the past were deleted. I activated this blog again for a start of a new beginning and another chapter of life--being a Mommy to Mohan (my first baby) at the same time being a working mom slash entrepreneur (for my 3 online shops).

I made this blog site for myself and not for updating others about my life and my everyday whatevers. This blog is my outlet for the things that I can't say and things i want to do. And also, to discover new things (by reading other blogger's posts) and to meet new friends (blogger friends) and.. to follow the fashion bloggers i love!

I hope I can update this regularly eventhough i'm gonna be busy starting next week since i'm starting on my new work and still manage my 3 online shops and other sidelines.
